(YWA release) – Yuba Water Agency has approved a $5,475,696 cash flow loan and $541,286 grant to the Three Rivers Levee Improvement Authority to ensure the continuation of critical levee improvements throughout Yuba County while TRLIA awaits state reimbursement.

“TRLIA’s levee improvements are directly aligned with our agency’s mission to reduce flood risk for Yuba County, so it makes sense that we would help get these projects over the finish line,” said Yuba Water Flood Risk Reduction Manager Sami Nall.

The funds will help complete flood risk reduction projects, including completion of TRLIA’s North Training Wall, to reduce flood risk for Marysville and the community of Hallwood. Other projects include the Yuba Goldfields Levee Project, which reduces flood risk for Linda, Olivehurst, Arboga and Plumas Lake. It will also help cover the cost of permits, inspections and other actions needed to certify that a project has met its stated grant funding requirements.

The loan is expected to be repaid in full by TRLIA once it’s reimbursed an anticipated $9.7 million through the California Department of Water Resources’ Floodplain Management, Protection and Risk Awareness Program. Yuba Water previously approved a $550,000 loan to TRLIA and amended the terms of that loan to reflect this latest need.

The grant will help cover some of TRLIA’s operating expenses, while it undergoes an organizational transition.

Yuba Water has been a longtime partner and financial supporter of TRLIA, a joint powers agency established in 2004 by Yuba County and Reclamation District 784 to finance and construct levee improvements along the Yuba, Feather and Bear rivers in the county.
