(Sacramento, CA) — Northern California’s late-season heat shattered another record in Sacramento on Thursday, marking the hottest October day ever recorded. The temperature reached 103 degrees at the downtown Sacramento observation site. That surpasses the previous record of 102 degrees set in 2001, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists noted this is Sacramento’s first October heat wave since 1987. A heat wave is defined by three or more consecutive days over 100 degrees.
