(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – A casting call for a film about homelessness, and the problems that cause it, is being held in Yuba-Sutter this Sunday. The Appeal-Democrat reports the film is the brainchild of Yuba City Mayor Shon Harris, who has “been dabbling in the art of film-making for the past several years now, however this particular project will be his largest to date.”
The ‘community filming project’ is for “The Road to Resilience” as Mayor Harris tells the paper he has interviewed “over 30 unhoused individuals” to help “capture their humanity and show the struggles they face” as the film will spotlight “how they got to where they are.” The movie will focus on the homeless problem, both in Yuba-Sutter and elsewhere.
The roles, around 40 of them, are open to all genders, all ethnic groups and ages. No acting experience is required, and the paper adds, “those who participate may be eligible for a stipend.”
The casting call is set for this Sunday afternoon at 4:00, at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. Actual shooting for the movie will take place at locations throughout the Yuba-Sutter area, from from February through April.
Homelessness is all to familiar to the Yuba-Sutter area, and this often marginalized part of our population, seldom if ever, has any kind of advocacy on their behalf.
