(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – A notable item on the agenda of tonight’s meeting of the Yuba City Council, is the removal of a crosswalk adjacent to Yuba City High School, to ‘improve’ pedestrian safety and help with traffic flow. The crosswalk in particular, is at the intersection of B Street & Cooper Avenue.

The Yuba City Council is set to vote on the crosswalk’s future at their meeting this evening, as The Appeal-Democrat reports a study of its use showed vehicles ‘proceeding into the road when the crosswalk closest to them cleared, only to find that the next crosswalk was occupied. Vehicles were then forced to wait in the middle of the intersection and disrupt the flow of traffic.’ According to Yuba City officials, “The disruption in traffic flow appears to cause drivers to become impatient, which has a general effect of reducing pedestrian safety.”

The paper reports public works staff has recommended the removal of that crosswalk, as there are others in the immediate vicinity. If the council votes to do do, along with the crosswalk being eliminated, the flashing light used with it would be installed at the intersection of B Street and University Avenue.
