(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba City Council has voted unanimously to grant Yuba City High School Administrator requests and follow Public Works recommendations to remove one of the two crosswalks adjacent to YCHS, at B and Cooper Streets.
At issue is the east-side crosswalk.
The Appeal-Democrat reports that a Public Works study confirmed that as one or the other crosswalks clears, drivers often proceed through – but only a short distance – before having to wait for the next crosswalk to clear. The east-side crosswalk was chosen for removal because none of the curbs are ADA compliant.
Blanking out the crosswalk and removal of the flashing pedestrian indicators will be completed “within the next week or two, weather permitting” according to the Public Works Director, who also tells the paper that curb ramps will ‘be brought up to ADA compliance.”
