(YCSO release) – On August 17, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department responded to a mutual aid call from Marysville Police Department to help locate a man who went missing underwater while attempting to cross the Yuba River near Beer Can Beach (Above Simpson Lane Bridge, Marysville, Ca.).

Linda Fire Department responded to assist with their rescue raft and ultimately located the man under two feet of water. Lifesaving measures were immediately taken by emergency personnel, however, the man was pronounced dead on scene.

Deputies were unable to locate any identification on or near the victim but he appeared to be Hispanic, approximately 30 years old, and possibly transient.
