(YCSO release)– Just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Yuba County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Drake Way in Oregon House for a report of shots fired. Deputies learned that just before the call, two victims (one adult and one juvenile) walked to this address to confront the driver of a pickup truck who was seen driving recklessly on Manzanita Lane. As the victims were attempting to obtain the license plate of the pickup truck, 35-year-old Corby Sargent exited the residence and pointed a firearm at the victims. Although the victims quickly turned to leave, Sargent fired his weapon several times in their direction. Fortunately, no one was hit.
As deputies arrived in the area and attempted contact with Sargent, he continued to fire his weapon, barely missing several of the deputies.
The Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team was activated, and detectives authored a search warrant into the residence. Upon service of the warrant, Corby Sargent was taken into custody without further incident.
The California Highway Patrol (air and ground), YCSO Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team (drones), YCSO Crisis Negotiations Team, YCSO Problem-Oriented Policing Team, and YCSO Detectives assisted in the service of the warrant.
Sargent was arrested and booked at the Yuba County Jail for 245(a)(2) PC (assault with a firearm), and 246 PC (shooting at an inhabited vehicle)
