(YCPD release) — Around August of 2022, the Yuba Sutter Narcotic and Gang Enforcement Task Force (NET-5), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and other law enforcement agencies started seizing brightly-colored fentanyl in multiple forms, including pills, powder, and blocks that resembles sidewalk chalk. The pills usually have “M’ stamped on one side and “30” stamped on the opposite side. These colored pills and powder are referred to as “rainbow fentanyl” by drug traffickers and users.
The powder and pills come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes. The DEA assessed the reason behind the colored fentanyl pills/powder, which was a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults.
In the last two months, Yuba City Police Department Officers and NET-5 Agents have seized approximately 1,000 colored fentanyl pills and colored powder fentanyl.
For those who are not aware, fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. Just two milligrams of fentanyl, which is equal to 10-15 grains of table salt, is considered a lethal dose. Without laboratory testing, there is no way to know how much fentanyl is concentrated in a pill or powder.
Please educate your children, family, and friends about colored fentanyl and the effects of the drug. This information is extremely important as we are vastly approaching candy season (Halloween).
