(Wheatland, CA) – Follow-up to the collision KUBA reported on throughout yesterday morning’s commute, that had HWY 65 closed in both directions for several hours just outside the Wheatland city limits.
CHP reports officers were dispatched at 6:09 to a report of a head-on collision south of Oakley Lane, and determined that a 73-year-old Wheatland woman driving a 2017 Corolla north – for unknown reasons – traveled over the double-yellow, into the southbound lanes. She then collided head-on with a 2002 Explorer driven by 22-year-old Eleazar Perez-Reyez of Marysville. The Wheatland woman was killed.
Perez-Reyez was knocked out, but a press release reports the injuries sustained are described as minor.
The name of the deceased Wheatland woman has not been released pending family notification. It is unknown if DUI was a contributing factor.
