(Sacramento, CA) — Family, friends and community members are remembering a ten-year-old boy who was shot and killed outside of his apartment in Sacramento. On Monday, a vigil was held for the boy, who authorities say was shot and killed by another ten-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon. The alleged shooter and his 53-year-old father are behind bars and face several charges. The victim’s family says the other boy was upset after losing a bicycle race and allegedly got the gun out of his father’s car.
Detectives say the suspected shooter’s father tried to hide the gun by throwing it in a trashcan. They add that the gun was reported stolen in 2017, and say the boy’s father was a felon and was not allowed to posses a gun.
The father is due in court on Wednesday.
