(Davis, CA) — The U.S. Department of Education continues to investigate alleged civil rights violations at UC Davis and Sacramento State University.
The department’s civil rights office is looking into two alleged violations of the Civil Rights Act on the UC Davis campus as tensions rose during protests against the Israel-Hamas war. Federal officials sent letters dated last month to UC Davis Chancellor Gary May. One details a complaint of alleged discrimination against students of Jewish or Israeli descent.
The other alleges discrimination against students with Palestinian, Arab or Muslim ancestry. Both complaints say the university failed “to respond adequately to incidents of harassment of these students.”
Sacramento State also received a separate investigation letter, but has not commented
