(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Sutter County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a plan to sell up to seven county owned properties. That includes – most notably – the former Kmart in Yuba City, which they bought for $8.2-million two years ago.
There were plans then to convert it into a headquarters for the Health and Human Services Department. However, Sutter County Administrator Steve Smith tells The Appeal-Democrat that initial renovation estimates of $37-million ballooned to $80-million “during COVID.”
Smith goes on to tell the paper “a recent analysis shows the value of the property is approximately $14.4-million which means the county will make a profit.”
Other properties the board approved selling include the former animal control facility, the lot between Garden Highway & the new animal shelter and ‘Sign Shop’ on Alicia Avenue in Sutter.
