(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The new malnutrition death rate report just released by the California Department of Public Health, based upon ‘preliminary death certificate data” for 2022 according to the Tribune News Service, shows Sutter County had some of the highest death rate numbers due to malnutrition, in all of California, behind only Tuolumne, Butte, Merced and Lake Counties.
The report details 1,400 California deaths last year which are attributed to malnutrition, but doesn’t give county-specific numbers. However, it does note that malnutrition is “particularly common among older people, especially those who are ill, low-income and home bound.”
The majority of malnutrition deaths in our state last year were among those 85 and older.
