(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department received a report at around 5:40 yesterday morning, of a runaway juvenile, prompting a search by multiple deputies. While searching, dispatch received a call at 6:54am from a Lindhurst High School staff member saying they could see a person hanging from the second story of the school building.

Upon arrival, deputies confirmed a deceased 14-year-old girl, an apparent suicide, and identified her as the reported runaway, a Lindhurst student. A media release notes this is an active investigation with detectives reviewing school surveillance and speaking with those close to the girl.

Additional details may be released as they become available.

The release included condolences from the sheriff, who urges anyone with suicidal thoughts to seek help immediately.

Classes at Lindhurst are canceled again today, but the school’s Wellness Center is open and staffed with grief counselors.
