(Oroville Police Department release) – On Monday, March 25, 2024, a 911 call was made from the Northwest Lineman College regarding a student injury. Emergency first responders located one male with injuries related to a fall from a pole that was used for training at the college. First responders conducted life-saving measures. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Oroville Police Officers and Detectives arrived at the scene and began the initial investigation into the death. It was determined that the male, a 19-year-old- student at the lineman college, was utilizing the pole for educational purposes.
The pole ultimately failed, causing the victim to fall along with it. The fallen pole unfortunately fatally incapacitated the victim. The identity of the victim will not be released at this time, pending next of kin notification.
This incident occurred during regular teaching hours; due to the matter’s sensitivity, the Oroville Police Department requested that the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Chaplaincy program be activated to provide counseling services to the students and witnesses.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no other information will be provided.
