(Sacramento, CA) — The state legislature is once again considering a bill that would allow some convicted felons serving life in prison without parole to petition for early release. After almost a year, the bill was removed from the state assembly’s inactive file on Monday.

If passed, convicted felons could have their prison sentences reduced if they’ve spent at least 25 years behind bars or have been in prison since 1990. That would include people convicted of murder. But serial killers and people who killed police officers would not be eligible.
