(Placer County, CA) — A sexually violent predator may be placed very close to tribal lands in Placer County. The Placer County District Attorney’s Office confirms the state is eyeing property near tribal lands, but no county or tribe officials have said exactly where. For several months, the Department of State Hospitals has been trying to relocate William Stephenson, who has a history of sex crimes dating back to the 1990s.
Last July, after Stephenson had served his time behind bars, a judge deemed him fit for re-release as a transient. But, state and Placer County officials are still trying to find a place to house him.
The state is paying seven-thousand-dollars per month to hold the possible housing location.
