(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – After almost four years, sentencing has been scheduled for 52-year-old Miguel Gamez-Perez of Olivehurst, in connection with a DUI causing injury and failure to appear.
With a DUI conviction already on his record, the night of December 9th, 2019, Gamez-Perez drove his pickup into the back of a vehicle stopped at a red light at Erle Road & Lindhurst Avenue at an estimated 40 m.p.h. He then stopped for “a few minutes” according to a release from the Yuba County D.A.’s office, then, drove away without contacting the driver of the vehicle hit, driven by an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force.
Matthew Martin, a motorist who witnessed the collision, rendered medical aid, arranged for the injured driver to be taken to the hospital and provided law enforcement the license plate number of the vehicle Gamez-Perez was driving.
Since his initial arrest, B.A.C at .35, Gamez-Perez failed to appear and eluded capture until this past may. On Monday, he pled no contest and will be sentenced in October.
