(Sacramento, CA) — The Sacramento Republic FC soccer team is making American sports history. The team announced Tuesday that it had signed 13-year-old Da’vian Kimbrough to a contract. That makes Kimbrough the youngest professional athlete in American team sports history at 13 years, five months and 13 days.
The teen has come up through the Republic’s development program and officials say his signing isn’t a publicity stunt. Kimbrough could get his first action on the pitch for the big squad at the Republic’s next home match on August 26th.
