(Sacramento County, CA) — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hate crime at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Rancho Cordova. The temple’s sign was vandalized with graffiti referencing India’s prime minister, and water lines were cut.

Detectives from the gang unit are working with state and federal partners on the case.

A prayer service was held Wednesday with officials and community members, condemning the act. Rancho Cordova Vice Mayor Siri Pulipati called for unity against hate. The graffiti has been removed, and the temple is increasing security measures.
