(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – In Yuba County Court, 53-year-old Robert English has been sentenced to eleven years in prison for assaulting Leland Ellis with a hammer, April 22nd of last year. The sentence comes after he pled no contest to assault with a deadly weapon inflicting great bodily injury.

English attacked Ellis at the Rio Inn as Ellis was sitting outside, in front of his room, telling Ellis someone had “taken over his body” according to a press release from the Yuba County District Attorney. The press release goes on to say “English then pulled a hammer from behind his back and struck Ellis in the head one time with the claw of the hammer. Several people came to Ellis’s aid and English ran from the scene.”

Ellis survived the attack and ensuing emergency brain surgery.
