(Sacramento, CA) — As the weather warms up in the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys, local agencies are getting ready to deal with mosquitoes and the spread of West Nile Virus. It’s important to keep the mosquito population under control to lessen the threat of West Nile Virus.

The virus is in our bird population. The mosquitos bite the bird and then transmit the virus to humans.

According to the California Department of Health, the state has seen nearly 430 human cases of the mosquito-borne virus in 34 counties over the past year, including 51 cases in Sacramento County, 33 in Stanislaus, and 15 in San Joaquin.
