(Placer County, CA) — The Placer County board of supervisors are saying “no” to the possible release of a sexually violent predator. The board sent a letter of opposition to the county superior court. The county is urging the superior court to reconsider the release of 66-year-old William Stephenson until they find housing that will properly monitor him.
Stephenson was arrested in 2017 for having child porn on his electronic devices. He has a criminal history of sexual battery that started in the 1980s.
The court granted him transient release into the community, where he can be placed in an RV or motel room. A court hearing is set for tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Bill Santucci Justice Center courthouse in Roseville with more details on where his possible release will be.
