(Placer County, CA) — The first fentanyl murder case to go to trial in Placer County is now in the hands of a jury. The jury is deliberating the case of 23-year-old Carson Schewe charged with second-degree murder and drug possession in the 2021 fentanyl poisoning death of Kade Webb, cousin of San Francisco Giants player Logan Webb.
Prosecutors allege Schewe was Webb’s drug dealer, pointing to social media videos showing pills for sale. Defense attorneys argue the case is an overreach, driven by community pressure over the fentanyl crisis.
The jury will decide between second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and two drug charges. Deliberations continue today [Friday].
