(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – PG&E has issued a warning that reports of scams targeting utility customers are at an all time high for the first 4 months of this year.
The typical current scam is a caller claiming to be from PG&E threatening disconnection if immediate payment isn’t made, either with a pre-paid debit card, or money transfer.
PG&E reminds you they never send just a single notification within an hour of service interruption, and never ask for payment via pre-paid debit card of gift card, 3rd party digital payment or crypto-currency.
Nor will they ever ask you for your financial information by phone or email.
In the first 4 months of this year, there have been over 19,000 scam attempts of PG&E customers, who have already lost a total of $342,000 to scammers.
