(Oroville, CA) – A 19-year-old Oroville man has been arrested and charged in the accidental shooting death of his 15-year-old brother-in-law.
Oroville Police responded to a 911 call from the residence of Christopher Riley Noakes on Ft. Wayne street where they found the 15-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Butte County D.A. tells Action News the two were face-timing with a friend of the victim’s and Noakes took a gun from the 15-year-old’s waistband, “fooling around” and pulled the trigger, not knowing the gun was loaded.
Noting Noakes lack of a criminal record and the unintentional nature of the shooting, he’s charged with involuntary manslaughter and is free from custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 15th, facing a maximum of 4 years in county jail.
