(Oroville, CA) – In Butte County Court, 35-year-old Andy Iles of Oroville, despite pleading guilty to murdering his mother just over 2 years ago on January 5th, 2022, was ruled not guilty by reason of insanity. This came after two of three court appointed psychologists determined he was legally insane when he pulled the trigger of a shotgun.
Iles has no previous criminal record and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 2010. However, a D.A. tells Action News he subsequently suffered from paranoia and delusion, including the belief that “the government and others, including his mother, were trying to kill him.”
He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and prescribed medication, but stopped taking it before the shooting.
