(Oroville, CA) – In Butte County Court, over the objection of the District Attorney and the recommendation by the Probation Department, 20-year-old Chris Noakes of Oroville was sentenced to time served and two years probation for the shooting death of a 15-year-old relative in May.
Both the D.A. and Probation Department were requesting a 3 year state prison term, according to the Oroville Mercury-Register.
Noakes pled no contest to involuntary manslaughter. He shot and killed the 15-year-old, who had brought a semi-automatic handgun with him while visiting Noakes, that he had stolen the day before. During that visit, while Noakes was “fooling around” with the gun, he aimed it at the youth’s head, pilled the trigger, resulting in his death.
