(Chico, CA) – A Chico Police officer and Butte County Sheriff’s deputy are on administrative leave following a non-lethal shooting of a domestic violence suspect, pre-dawn yesterday morning, at around 2:45.
According to a Chico Police Department release, the incident began when 41-year-old Jason Sampson was being pursued and his vehicle was disabled by a spike-strip. He then ran and got inside an unlocked patrol vehicle, and, as the release states “officers noticed he had a handgun.” Both an officer and deputy fired at Sampson.
The release adds, “he is expected to survive.” Neither the officer nor deputy were injured.
