(Sacramento, CA) — The National Weather Service is reporting more than six-thousand lightning strikes in central and northern California during the weekend. The lightning was recorded from the coast to the Sierra foothills during an 18-hour period that ended Sunday at five p.m.
There were also periods of heavy rain on Saturday night, though no area recorded more than one inch of rain. The moisture comes from the remnants of Hurricane Jova.
The Tahoe Basin will still have a slight chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
