(Sacramento, CA) — Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Justice are now investigating after 16 migrants from Venezuela and Columbia were dropped off in front of a church in Sacramento. State leaders say the group was dropped off outside the Diocese of Sacramento without warning on Friday night.
Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta met with the migrants on Saturday. They say the group was taken from Texas to New Mexico then flown to Sacramento on a private jet. They were also carrying documents that appeared to have been issued by the state of Florida. Bonta calls it “state-sanctioned kidnapping.” It’s still unclear who paid for the migrants’ travel.
