(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Department of Water Resources Deputy Director of the State Water Project announced yesterday that “in line with DWR’s 2018/19 flood control plan” that was outlined following the 2017 Oroville Dam Spillway collapse, they are now using the new spillway for just the second time since its completion, five years ago.
Releases will reach 15,000 cubic feet per second through the Hyatt Power Plant and the spillway itself, by noon today.
The new spillway was utilized once before in April of 2019, with releases of 25k cfs.
Meanwhile, there are no plans to release any water from Lake Shasta as it has plenty of water storage space and remains at only 69% of capacity.
