(Yuba-Sutter, CA) — Yesterday, Yuba County Judge Julia Scrogin sentenced Michael Allen Pete Huffsmith, Jr., to serve six years in state prison for criminal threats and vandalism.

According to the Yuba County District Attorney’s office, the charges stemmed from a dispute between neighbors over an easement between Lemon and H Streets in Marysville. Huffsmith was behaving angrily and erratically when he kicked in his neighbor’s gate and threatened to kill him on the evening of August 31, 2022. Some of the confrontation was captured by a Ring doorbell video.

Based on the evidence, the jury found that the neighbor was reasonably in sustained fear for his life due to Huffsmith’s actions and threats.

Huffsmith received double the normal punishment because of a prior “strike” conviction for robbery.
