(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – In Yuba County Court, 27-year-old Angel Zavala of Marysville was sentenced yesterday to 11 years in prison for threats he made to a female Marysville Police officer, the day after Christmas, two years ago. He was found guilty two months ago of criminal threats, threatening a public official, battery on a peace officer and being drunk in public. Zavala also had a previous strike conviction from 2016 for criminal threats.

Officers responded to a call from the Cortez Room in Marysville on December 26th, 2022, “about a drunk” according to a press release from Yuba County DA Clint Curry. When officers arrived, they found Zavala lying face down outside the bar and when approached, began threatening the female officer, whom he recognized from prior police contacts, including that he had been “making plans to rape her.” He added that he had found her address on Google and knew the color and location of her house and that he would ultimately kill her.
