(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Yuba County DA has issued a press release informing that Jonathon Scott Franklin of Marysville has died in prison, “despite efforts to release him.”
Franklin was convicted of attempted murder in 2009 after “Inquiring around Marysville about having his estranged wife killed.” Police learned of his plan and arranged for an undercover agent to meet with Franklin, who offered the agent $1500 for the job.
He subsequently offered double for the additional death of the man Franklin believed his wife was dating. He ultimately pled no contest to attempted murder and was sentenced to 10 to life.
Two years ago Franklin was diagnosed with colon cancer and the State Department of Corrections said since he had only 6 months to live, he should be released. However, the Yuba County DA successfully fought the release, “based on Franklin’s ongoing danger to the public” and he died in prison earlier this month.
