(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – CHP Yuba-Sutter is nominating Community Heroes Cyle Johnson, his wife Ashley Martin and their 6-year-old daughter, all of Marysville, for successful life saving efforts yesterday.

They were visiting residents of Larkin Road in Live Oak early yesterday afternoon when 75-year-old Robbie Carpenter of Live Oak was involved in a rollover collision nearby, just north of Paseo Road, coming to a stop in a full irrigation canal. The vehicle landed upside down, with Carpenter’s head under water. The 6-year-old, playing outside, witnessed the rollover and ran inside to tell the adults.

Cyle and Ashley then ran out to assist, Cyle jumping a fence and into the canal, forced the car door open and pulled Robbie out. However, she was initially unresponsive after being in the submerged vehicle, but care was provided by the family until first responders arrived minutes later.

A CHP Yuba-Sutter release reports “Robbie was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout with minor injuries. Had it not been for the heroic actions of Cyle, Ashley, and their daughter, this would have been a much different outcome.”

The release adds: “A rather odd fact. Cyle was first on scene at a fatal wrong way crash on SR-99 near Howsley Road on October 13th, 2024. Cyle assisted Ian Essary, who was gravely injured, and was recently released from UC Davis. Cyle is that one guy you need in your time of need!”
