Yuba-Sutter, CA) – As expected, in an effort to secure state & federal funding to help deal with the Hotel Marysville fire just over a week ago, the Marysville City Council has declared a State of Emergency.
In the last week, the fire’s aftermath has already resulted in a congested traffic corridor becoming more so, and a severe negative impact on downtown businesses. The owner of the property, Urban Smart Growth, has subsequently now offered it for free to the city. However, the City Manager tells The Appeal-Democrat that “demolition costs are likely higher than the value of the property,” going on to say, he does not “see this as a reasonable solution for a problem that is clearly the responsibility of the property owner.”
In the short term, “4 or 5” demolition companies are inspecting the structure offering estimates to the city at no charge.
