(Yuba-Sutter, CA) – The Sutter County Sheriff’s office has issued a press release reporting deputies responded “at around midnight” Monday night to a report of a man with a pickaxe and crowbar causing a disturbance, in the 900 block of O Street in Live Oak.
47-year-old Vertis Wheeler of Live Oak approached the deputies, who held him at gunpoint, giving him verbal commands to drop the weapons. However, he ignored them. After a ten-minute stand-off, deescalation specialists arrived and “were able to gain compliance from Wheeler with patience and persistence.” Wheeler was then taken into custody without further incident. No deputies nor subjects were injured.
Wheeler’s charges include “obstruction/resisting a peace officer, attempted assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and exhibiting a deadly weapon other than a firearm.” His bail has been set at $50,000.
