(Yuba-Sutter, CA) –With Yuba-Sutter schools starting back within weeks, hundreds flocked to downtown Marysville yesterday for a back to school bash, that gets bigger every year.

The event started over 10 years ago, as The Appeal-Democrat reports Randy Mitchell began giving free haircuts to kids in need, at the Upper Cut Barber Shop in Marysville. Over time, the free haircuts morphed into an annual back to school event, as the Yuba County Office of Education, along with the City of Marysville and the Marysville Joint Unified School District got on board, turning free haircuts into an annual street party. And street party, literally, as various streets in downtown Marysville were closed off yesterday to accommodate the massive turnout.

Almost 1,000 people were in attendance, nearly double from just last year. Lines formed around the block along Third, Fourth and C Streets for the free haircuts, as well as nail sessions, school supplies, food, beverages and even immunizations.
