(NorCal, CA) – Lake Shasta keeps inching its way up. By yesterday, the lake was 56-percent full according to the Department of Water Resources. This comes after recent atmospheric rivers and after only being 34-percent full the first few days of January. It’s also 87-percent of normal compared to just 57-percent at the beginning of the month. There’s been a 60-foot rise on Lake Shasta in January.
The lake has been inching up a half a foot to more than five feet per day since the holidays and up a half a foot in just the last 24 hours. At its current water level, Lake Shasta is larger than Don Pedro, Lake Berryessa, and New Melones when they are full.
This could be great news for the drought-stricken state as Lake Shasta provides water throughout California from Redding to Southern California. Lake Oroville is currently at about 808 feet. Due to a sensor issue, other data was not immediately available.
