(Portola, CA) — Firefighters are battling multiple fires caused by lightning in the Plumas National Forest. The U.S. Forest Service says the Gold Complex Fire, which is a series of four fires, started during a thunderstorm on Monday afternoon.
The Mill Fire has burned 500 acres of land, while the Mill Two and Mill Three fires have each burned 75 acres of land.
The Smith Fire has burned 50 acres of land north of Highway 70. Structures are threatened in several communities, including Whitehawk Ranch, Gold Mountain and the south and west sides of Portola. Multiple evacuation orders are in place.
