(Butte County, CA) – In Butte County Court yesterday, former Gridley Middle School teacher Michelle Solis was sentenced to the maximum four years in state prison for having sex with a student. She will also have to register as a sex offender for ten years upon release. As well, the protective order for the victim was extended for ten years according to Action News.
Solis’s attorney requested she be sentenced only to probation saying “the incident was only one act.” However, the DA argued that the maximum sentence was appropriate “due to the 29 year age difference, Solis’s position as a trusted member of the community and a pattern of conduct that amounted to grooming.”
Prior to having intercourse in her classroom with the 14-year-old on the day of his 8th grade graduation, Solis sent explicit photos of herself to the student.
