(Davis, CA) — The man accused of stabbing three people in Davis in April will begin a mental competency trial today. The 21-year-old former U.C. Davis student is accused of stabbing two men to death and severely injuring a woman in less than a week.

The murder case against the man is on hold until a jury determines he’s mentally capable of understanding what’s happening in the courtroom. In May, the man’s public defender said he believes his client is not mentally competent.

In June, a court-appointed doctor found that the man is indeed not mentally fit for trial. A jury will make the final decision.
