(Sacramento, CA) — There’s a new push to restrict the use of facial recognition technology in California. New legislation introduced by Assemblymember Phil Ting places limits on law enforcement’s use of FRT. Ting believes it is critical for California to establish safeguards for its use among law enforcement.

The goal is to prevent mistaken arrests or inappropriate tracking when using the tool. He argues that imposing parameters and requiring additional evidence can help protect people’s privacy and due process rights.
