(Sacramento, CA) — The California Assembly has passed Governor Gavin Newsom’s bill aimed at preventing gas price hikes with a 41 to 16 vote. The bill would require oil refineries to keep a minimum amount of oil in stock to prevent price spikes during peak driving months.

Several California mayors and local leaders support the bill, but gas companies oppose it, claiming that refineries are already at full capacity and cannot hold extra oil.
