(Undated) — California residents could soon end up with speeding tickets without having ever talked to a cop. The state Legislature has passed a bill that authorizes the use of automated speed cameras to ticket California drivers.

The bill now awaits Governor Newsom’s signature. If approved, pilot programs in larger cities like San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, Glendale and Long Beach are expected to begin as soon as next year.

The automated speed cameras would be able to ticket drivers if they were tracked going eleven miles or more over the speed limit.
