(Sacramento, CA) — The first proposed bill to change Proposition 47 is being introduced at the state capitol. Democrat Assemblyman Carlos Villapudua is announcing his plan to revise prop 47 by adjusting the 950-dollar threshold between misdemeanor and felony theft. He also wants to increase judicial discretion to give the Legislature more power to craft retail theft policy.
Prop 47, previously known as the “Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act”, has been under intense scrutiny in recent years for perpetuating retail theft by making it harder for law enforcement to prosecute.
