(Sacramento, CA) — California’s violent crime rate has increased by 15-point-four percent compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, according to the Public Policy Institute of California. Although crime remains lower than in the 1980s and 1990s, it has risen over the past decade.

The report found the highest violent crime rates in the San Joaquin Valley, while southern coastal and border counties experienced the lowest rates.
