(Sacramento County, CA) — Sacramento County may soon allow deputies and park rangers to clear homeless camps from public property without offering shelter beds, following a board meeting on Tuesday. Under the new ordinance, officials must give 48 hours’ notice before clearing camps, except in cases posing imminent threats or those near shelters.
Critics argue this could destabilize the homeless community, while supporters, including the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, welcomed the measure.
The county currently spends over 220-million-dollars annually on homeless services and camp clearances.
