(Sacramento, CA) — TikTok is being sued by more than a dozen states claiming the popular app is purposely designed to addict young people. California Attorney General Rob Bonta co-led a coalition of 14 attorneys general in filing the lawsuits Tuesday. They claim the video sharing app broke consumer protection laws and TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has misled the public about how safe it is for children.

Bonta says TikTok intentionally targets children because they know kids don’t have the capacity to create healthy boundaries around addictive content.
